Remember SOPA, that horrible internet bill that would ban fan fiction? It died. But it came back from the dead! It’s zombie SOPA! Well, it’s not completely the same as SOPA, it’s just one part of it.
The Obama Administration is trying to bring back a part that says you can’t show anything copyrighted online. Sounds good, right? No. In this case, it means that you can’t post a song on YouTube for people to listen to if the song is copyrighted. And the Beatles are still copyrighted , so the guy who posted this video would be considered a criminal if this thing got passed:
And Minecraft is copyrighted, so a Let’s Play video of Minecraft would also be considered illegal. Many innocent people have uploaded Let’s Play videos of Minecraft, and countless other copyrighted games, to honour those games! Yet, under this potential law, they wouldn’t be honouring the games, they would be violating them! That’s just crazy. Under this law, this stooky video by Tobuscus would be illegal:
And the song Happy Birthday is still copyrighted, so if you uploaded a video of you singing that song to YouTube, you could get sent to jail!
This is very bad. If you wanna sign the email petition, go here: http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/sopas-back/.
Peace out, and May the Force be with you. Remember that the government is not the Force. Well, they are, but most of the people in the government are on the dark side. Not all of them, but most of them. The dark side is strong, but it is not stronger. Remember that.
